Bill smooth Terms and Conditions


  • 1.1. These terms and conditions govern your use of your RentPay account to make a payment arrangement towards your Origin bill. If you meet and continue to satisfy the eligibility requirements in clause 3, RentPay will pay you the Cash-back Payment into your RentPay wallet.


  • 2.1. These terms are to be read in conjunction with the RentPay User Agreement.
  • 2.2. Nothing in these terms and conditions affects your Energy Agreement with us. Despite any Energy Prepayments made through RentPay, you must ensure that you pay any remaining balance on your Origin bill by the date set out in your bill.
  • 2.3. To the extent something in these terms and conditions is inconsistent with your Energy Agreement, the terms of your Energy Agreement will prevail.
  • 2.4. These terms and conditions do not limit other rights we may have to end your Energy Agreement or disconnect your energy supply under your Energy Agreement or by law.


  • 3.1. To be eligible for Cash-back Payments:
    1. you must be on an Origin electricity and/or gas market offer and Origin must be and remain your electricity retailer and/or gas retailer at your Rental Address;
    2. the electricity and/or gas account for you Rental Address must be in your name;
    3. you must be a residential on market customer;
    4. you must not have received a gift card from Rent.com.au when you signed up to RentConnect;
    5. you must not be on an EasiPay Payment Plan or any other payment plan with Origin;
    6. you must have a RentPay account and use the RentPay services to pay your rent at your Rental Address; and
    7. you agree to pay the Energy Prepayment through your RentPay account on the same frequency as your Rental Payment (i.e. weekly, fortnightly or monthly) by the Energy Prepayment Due Date.


  • 4.1. The Energy Prepayment will be an amount determined by you based on your estimated energy usage and must be between a minimum and maximum amount determined by us (which will be set out when you set up your Energy Prepayment in RentPay). Where you have both an Origin electricity account and gas account, there will be a separate Energy Prepayment for each.
  • 4.2. Your Origin bill will be based on your actual energy consumption at your Rental Address.
  • 4.3. You acknowledge that we make no representations that your Energy Prepayments will be sufficient to pay the entirety of your Origin bill. We will not adjust, or recommend that you adjust, your Energy Prepayment amount to reflect your energy usage.
  • 4.4. The Energy Prepayment will be debited from your RentPay account on the Energy Prepayment Due Date. You must ensure that you have the necessary funds available in your RentPay wallet on the Energy Prepayment Due Date.
  • 4.5. Energy Prepayments will appear as a credit on your respective Origin electricity or gas bill (as the case may be).
  • 4.6. Where the total of your Energy Prepayments for a billing period is:
    1. less than the amount of your Origin Invoice, you must pay the remaining amount by the due date on your Origin bill; or
    2. more than the amount of your Origin bill, the difference between the Energy Prepayment and the amount of your Origin bill will appear as a credit on your next Origin Invoice.
  • 4.7. You acknowledge that it may take up to 5 business days for any Energy Prepayments to be reflected in your Origin energy account.
  • 4.8. You acknowledge that paying Energy Prepayments through RentPay does not offer you the same protections as an Origin EasiPay payment plan. If you want to know more about Origin’s EasiPay or other payment plans or are having trouble paying your bill, please contact Origin on [13 24 61].


  • 5.1. Where you meet the eligibility criteria in clause 3.1, RentPay will pay you the following Cash-back Payment into your RentPay wallet at the same frequency as you pay your Rental Payment:
    Payment Frequency

    1 Origin Account

    (Electricity OR Gas)

    2 Origin Accounts

    (Electricity AND Gas)


    *Maximum available Cash-back Payment. Monthly Cash-back Payments will be calculated as pro-rata of the applicable weekly Cash-back Payment amount based on the number of days between monthly rent payments.

  • 5.2. If you fail to pay either your Energy Prepayment or Rental Payment by their respective due dates, you will no longer receive the Cash-back Payment.


  • 6.1. We may terminate these terms and conditions and your ability to make Energy Prepayments at any time by providing you notice in writing.
  • 6.2. If these terms and conditions end, you will be entitled to keep any Cash-back Payments you have already received.


  • 7.1. The Cash-back Payment is made by RentPay and we have no liability to you in respect of any Cash-back Payment.
  • 7.2. Subject to law, we do not accept liability to you for (a) loss of profits or revenue or anticipated savings; (b) loss or denial of opportunity, (c) any losses caused by you (e.g. through your negligence); (d) losses resulting from your failure to take reasonable steps to avoid or minimise your loss; (e) special, incidental or punitive damages suffered by you in connection with or arising out of these terms and conditions, except to the extent we cause that damage or loss because we breach these terms and conditions or are negligent


  • 8.1. We collect, use, hold and disclose your personal information in order to provide you with services. We may disclose this information to our related bodies corporate, our agents and contractors (such as mail houses, data processors and debt collectors), your distributor, relevant government authorities, other energy retailers and, in certain circumstances, a credit reporting agency. If you don’t provide this information to us, we may not be able to provide our products or services to you. Where possible, we’ll collect this information from you, but we also get it from third parties including RentPay as outlined below.   • 8.2. RentPay will provide us with information, or access to systems which hold information about you, including your name, address, email address, phone numbers and payment details.
  • 8.3. You agree that we may share information about you with RentPay (such as your Origin account number).
  • 8.4. From time to time we'll let you know about our products and offers, even after this agreement ends. If at any time you decide you don’t want to receive these offers, please let us know. You can do so by calling us on 13 24 62 or write to Origin Opt Out, Reply Paid 1199, GPO Box 1199, Adelaide, SA, 5001. We’ll keep providing you with these offers until you tell us otherwise.


  • 9.1. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Victoria.
  • 9.2. We reserve the right to make any changes (whether material or otherwise) these terms and conditions, including the amount of the Cash-back Payments.


  • 10.1. Cash-back Payment has the meaning given in clause 5.1.
  • 10.2. Energy Agreement means the terms and conditions which cover the sale of electricity and/or natural gas to you at your Rental Address.
  • 10.3. Energy Prepayment has the meaning set out in clause 4.1.
  • 10.4. Energy Prepayment Due Date means the date you must pay your Energy Prepayment as specified in the RentPay platform.
  • 10.5. RentPay means RentPay Technology Pty Ltd ACN 636 254 709.
  • 10.6. Rental Address means the address in relation to which you pay rent through the RentPay platform.
  • 10.7. Rental Payment means the rental amount you pay through your RentPay account.
  • 10.8. ‘We’, ‘Us’ and ‘Our’ means:
    1. where you have an electricity account with us: Origin Energy Electricity Limited ABN 33 071 052 287; and
    2. where you have a gas account with us, in:
      1. South Australia, Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia: Origin Energy Retail Ltd (ABN 22 078 868 425); and
      2. where you have a gas account with us, in:
      3. Victoria: Origin Energy Retail Ltd (ABN 22 078 868 425) in and around Mildura and Origin Energy (Vic) Pty Ltd (ABN 11 086 013 283) in all other areas of Victoria.
