Looking for a way to build credit while renting? Scorebuilder, a feature in the RentPay app, could be exactly what you need.

It helps renters access a line of credit and may contribute to building a better credit score, all while keeping things simple and stress-free.

What is Scorebuilder?

Scorebuilder is an optional feature available through RentPay. It gives eligible renters access to a reusable credit limit of up to $500.

The goal is to offer a backup for those one-off or unexpected expenses while also helping you build credit gradually.

RentPay reports your Scorebuilder account status monthly to illion, one of Australia’s leading credit bureaus.

This reporting may have a positive effect on your credit score over time.

How to apply for Scorebuilder

Getting started is quick and easy.

Just open the RentPay app and follow these steps:

  1. Apply inside the app
  2. A quick credit check is done to confirm eligibility
  3. Once approved, up to $500 becomes available
  4. If used, repayments are automatically split into four equal fortnightly instalments, debited from your nominated bank account

You can opt out of Scorebuilder at any time if you decide it is not the right fit.

What if you are not approved right away?

If you do not qualify immediately, you might be provisionally approved. This means you will need to complete a three-month qualification period.

During this time, continue making on-time rent and fee payments through RentPay as usual.

Once three months of good payment conduct is recorded, your Scorebuilder credit limit can be activated automatically.

There is no need to reapply or go through any extra steps.

How does Scorebuilder help build credit?

Your account status is reported monthly to illion as long as Scorebuilder remains active. You don't have to borrow funds for this to take place.

If you do borrow, making repayments on time adds to your credit history. It is a useful way to build credit without needing a separate credit card or loan.

Keep in mind that your credit score is influenced by other financial activity.

How you manage personal loans, credit cards and other accounts all contributes to the bigger picture.

Scorebuilder is one tool in a broader financial toolkit.

Flexible and reusable funds

Scorebuilder offers ongoing access to your full credit limit. Once borrowed funds are fully repaid, the full amount becomes available again.

You do not need to apply a second time or wait for approval.

This makes Scorebuilder helpful for renters who want a built-in buffer for tight weeks, unexpected costs or minor financial bumps.

It is designed to support you without adding unnecessary complexity... and of course, to help you build credit.

Scorebuilder costs

The feature comes with a few simple fees:

  • 5 dollar one-time application fee
  • 1.50 dollar monthly account fee
  • 4 dollar usage fee each fortnight when you have an outstanding balance
  • 15 dollar missed payment fee if a scheduled repayment fails

If you do not use your credit limit, the usage fee does not apply. You will only pay the monthly account fee while Scorebuilder is active.

Why renters are choosing Scorebuilder

Scorebuilder is made for renters who want more control over their finances.

Whether you want to build credit, rebuild your score or just want extra flexibility, this feature can help.

Because it's built into RentPay, it's easy to manage alongside your regular rent payments. No extra platforms, no confusing processes.

Just one app and one simple way to build credit with confidence.
