Scorebuilder Unsuitability Policy

Rent.com.au Limited (ACN 062 063 692) offers Scorebuilder Low Cost Credit Contract through its wholly owned subsidiaries, RentPay Technology Pty Ltd and RentBond Finance Pty Ltd. Rent.com.au Finance Pty Ltd processes and manages RentBond applications and loans on behalf of RentPay Technology Pty Ltd.

Rent.com.au Finance Pty Ltd (ACN 682 816 762) is an authorised credit representative (CRN: 0005677695) of RentPay Technology Pty Ltd (ACN 636 254 709).

Scope

This policy applies to all Scorebuilder Low Cost Credit Contracts provided by Rent.com.au to customers. All Rent.com.au employees, contractors and service providers involved in or supporting the provision and collection of credit must adhere to the guidelines below.

Purpose

The Unsuitability Policy is an overview of the assessment of how Rent.com.au determines if a Scorebuilder low cost credit contract is likely to cause a consumer financial hardship

Why we ask for your information

As a responsible lender we are required under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act (NCCP) to ensure that any loan we approve is not unsuitable. RentPay Technology Pty Ltd has complied with the modified responsible lending obligations under Pt 3-2BA of the National Credit Act, from the 10th of June 2025. This election relates to Low Cost Credit Contracts with a credit limit lower than $2,000.

We are obliged to ask you to provide specific information for us to make this assessment.

The law requires that we:

  1. Make reasonable inquiries about your requirements and objectives,
  2. Make reasonable inquiries about your financial situation,
  3. Identification information,
  4. Default information, and
  5. Payment information.

In short, we need to understand what you intend to use the loan proceeds on, verify your identity and understand your financial situation from credit bureau information.

How we assess your application

We collect information from various sources such as your credit bureau data, an identity verification, RentPay App usage data and potentially other sources. We then match the data we have collected and verified against our internal credit policies. The reason we do this is to make sure the loan is not unsuitable by:

  1. Making sure it meets your needs and objectives, and
  2. The Scorebuilder product is not unsuitable.

If a Scorebuilder Low Cost Credit Contract doesn’t meet your needs and objectives, or if it’s likely that you couldn’t pay or could only pay with substantial hardship then your application will be declined.

Objectives and needs

Scorebuilder is designed to be used for emergency expenses that are unplanned. Scorebuilder is not designed to be used for any expenses related to alcohol, gambling or any illegal activities. Rent.com.au endeavours to verify determine if the Low Cost Credit Contract aligns with the customers’ requirements and objectives through the application process as well as qualification periods and on-going conduct checks through the RentPay App.

Unsuitability

Scorebuilder Low Cost Credit Contracts use data collected via a full credit check to determine the historical credit behaviour of a customer include (but not limited) to:

  • Credit scores
  • Defaults,
  • Hardship status,
  • Arrears, and
  • Recent credit applications.

Information collected on income and RentPay app usage are also used in an assessment of whether the Scorebuilder product is not unsuitable.

A customer may be declined a Scorebuilder product is its deemed unsuitable.

Internal dispute resolution

If you have a complaint, it can be lodged by contacting the Rent.com.au Internal Disputes Resolution Manager or by speaking to any representative of our business who will refer you to the Internal Disputes Resolution Manager.

Review Triggers and Monitoring

Review Triggers

This Policy will be reviewed within 10 business days if:

  • A significant increase (as referenced by an increase beyond normal historical patterns) in complaints suggests misalignment with consumer objectives, needs or financial situation.
  • A significant increase (as referenced by an increase beyond normal historical patterns) in hardship applications or defaults occurs within 4 weeks of product uptake.
  • A significant increase (as referenced by an increase beyond normal historical patterns) in the number of missed repayments within 4 weeks of the loan being issued
  • A systemic Issue is identified by the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA)
  • A material changes to the laws applicable to this product, the product features or terms, or the distribution method
  • A material change to product terms or distribution occurs.

Scheduled Review Periods

  • The Unsuitability Policy will be reviewed annually, with the next scheduled review in June 2026

When subsequent reviews must occur:

  • A maximum of 12 months from the previous review date
  • As required, where a Review Trigger (see above) occurs

Policy review

This Scorebuilder Unsuitability Policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure its continued effectiveness and alignment with legal and regulatory changes. Updates or changes to the Policy will be communicated to all relevant personnel to ensure continued adherence to payment collection guidelines.
